In the words of lyricist Gulzar rain is the “the most physical” of all seasons, a season you can touch and see. They make him poetic, sensitive, romantic, observant and a lot more”.
I have always loved this season, loved to get drenched, feel the FEEL of it, crave its touch next to my skin, it just rejuvenates me, gives me a new life and new freshness. Those teasing drops pricking on my face and the delightful mood swings, it’s the perfect romantic weather. Intimate with your body it touches you like no one does.
I have always made sure that I pick up my destination wisely for the monsoons so that I can have the best of this season. Be it Goa, which is mostly avoided in monsoons I have always chosen this place during monsoon as I feel this virgin beauty comes to life like never before.
This fenny land has much more to offer in this season with its unending stretches of greenery as you romance the rains to glory. And when I think of hills, those clouds passing them as they plant a kiss and a promise to visit them soon is a sight to watch.
In contrast to beachy Goa, while in the hills and doing the chhai chhappa chhai as you walk the hilly roads, your childlike innocence comes to life. The moss-infested path, the hard climb of the mountain roads make the journey all the more memorable.
For ages, Bollywood has been known romancing the rains and carrying by the same so-called legacy I have loved to dance myself in this rain and hum to glory. My heart sings and skips a beat with the first shower of the season.
As the rain fills the valley and the sound of river gushing or the waves getting a bit furious as the trees away to happiness and yes that frogs croaking, you just can’t stop but dance your heart out as the lush green carpet looks evergreen.
I end it also with a couplet from non-other than Gulzar- Der tak baithe huye, Hum donone baarish dekhi, Woh dikhati thi mujhe, taaron pe chalti hui boondein (“We sat till late and watched the rain, she showed me raindrops walking on the stars”).
Here are few if my top places to travel during Monsoon —
Goa, Chikmanglur, Anywhere in Himachal, parts of Madhya Pradesh like Mandu, Lonavala and not to miss the evergreen Kerala.
Also as you hit the road take care of these few things-
