A Walk To Chalal

chalal

Chalal, a small little village, is just 30 minutes walk across a pretty scary bridge from Kasol. Walking along the river which has a very scenic trail to offer, appreciating the beauty, halting, loading your camera with some beautiful memories, you reach this quaint little village named Chalal – A backpackers heaven

One can only reach Chalal by foot from Kasol by crossing the suspended bridge that is over the free flowing Parvati river. The trail then leads to a narrow path taken by villagers and trekkers through the forest of tall pine trees.

As you walk along the river, stop, ponder watch the beauty as you sit on the huge rocks along the river banks. The gushing sound of the river gives you a very different kinda positive energy to re-charge yourself.

On the way as hunger pangs bother drop by Shanti Café, as you satiate your hunger with some magi and garam garam chai. Sit for some time enjoy the view before you head towards your destination. It all looks so calm here.

Once you reach the outskirts you can quickly identify that this is the place for “THAT REAL TRADE”. Charas plants are in abundance here. Every kid here knows the art to roll a joint.

Walking down the village you spot woman weavers, weaving magic with their fingers.  Traditional wooden houses, cattle shed are a common site in the village.

The village offers enough options to stay and eat, but Freedom café caught my attention. The view was impeccable. With no fancy items in it’s menu, I preferred to order some magi and ice tea. The food that is served in these cafes cater to the taste of the Israeli or western travelers.

Simplicity has yet not lost its touch with this place and the charm is still intact. With a calm, serene look in their faces these people look like they have nothing to worry about. (Won’t we crave for one such feeling?), But soon this place too is becoming the hub for trance and psychedelic parties that happen deep in the forest near the village.
